How to Promote Your Music
You don’t have to be a rocket scientist discover that in order to get more people to listen to your music, you’ll need to promote yourself. By promoting your DMusic site, you’re also promoting DMusic which helps us gain revenue to keep on kickin’!
So, what can you do?
Tell Your Actual Friends
Since we’re not so keen on the RIAA’s takeover of public radio, you’ll need to spread your tunes by word of mouth. Make a mixed CD for a friend. Have a party and stream the top Electronic downloads of the day. It’s as simple as just telling someone about your website: “Hey, check out my site at DMusic.com.” It’s the little stuff that counts.
Tell Your Internet Friends
You probably send out at least a few emails a day. Why not add a signature to the bottom with your DMusic address? You can also start talking on forums like Ultimate-Guitar or radio mute about DMusic and including a link at the bottom of each post you make. Play DMusic artists’ songs on your last.fm playlist or submit a mix to artofthemix.org with some DMusic artists. If you have iTunes, create an iMix and put on your favorite DMusic songs.
Join DMusic communities on other sites
Did you know we have a community on Second Life, Frappr, and Myspace? Join the DMusic communities outside of DMusic.com and let people know about your music by redirecting them to your page.
Review DMusic
With the recent popularity of internet encyclopedias, people have shown they are hungry for new information! Keep people up to date about or site by reviewing it at Amazon.com or Yelp, update our entry at Wikipedia, inform people about DMusic at ask.yahoo.com. Information is power!
Enrich our content
While promoting DMusic to new fans is important, so is keeping up the community spirit. Remember to continue to review fellow DMusicians, download and buy their music, commenting on their tracks. The community will respond by paying attention to you in return. Strengthen your presence on DMusic by submitting news articles and lessons to our website.
Writing to local papers
One of the most effective ways of spreading the word about DMusic is through publications. Write an op-ed for your local newspaper about your take on digital music and experience at DMusic. If you feel that the music industry is headed down the wrong path and independent non-RIAA artists need to be heard, let it be known in your community and try to make a difference. You can find the right addresses at congress.org.
Blogging
If you don’t already have your own blog, you probably spend some part of your day reading someone elses. Start leaving comments on others’ blogs about DMusic or with a link to your DMusic page. Encourage readers of your blog to check out your DMusic page. If you don't have a blog, start one for free at Blogger.
